Abstract

Occupational safety and health (OHS) is an important aspect in creating a good environment. However, workplace accidents often occur due to inadequate equipment. PDP Arafah Cianjur, a company engaged in food processing and distribution, is required to implement OHS optimally to reduce occupational accidents (KK) and occupational diseases (PAK) to create a safe, healthy, and productive work environment. The study aims to identify OHS problems that occur at PDP Arafah Cianjur, analyze the problem-solving efforts that have been undertaken by the company, and provide solutions to improve the OHS program. The method used is qualitative through direct observation and interviews. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of OHS at PDP Arafah Cianjur is not optimal. Problems were found in two main indicators, namely the environment and equipment. Several obstacles that emerged included a lack of worker discipline in following OHS procedures, a work environment that did not fully meet safety standards, and equipment maintenance that was not carried out regularly. These conditions have an impact on increasing the risk of KK and PAK and decreasing productivity. Problem solving; indicators of the condition of the work environment include rearranging the pen area and worker activity paths that were previously not well organized. Indicators of work equipment usage indicate the need to improve the use and maintenance of work equipment that is still simple and does not meet safety standards.

Review

This study critically examines the implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) practices at PDP Arafah Cianjur, a Garut sheep farm. Addressing a crucial yet often overlooked aspect within the agricultural sector, the paper effectively highlights the significance of OHS in fostering a safe, healthy, and productive work environment. The objectives—to identify existing OHS problems, analyze current problem-solving efforts, and propose improvements—are clear and relevant. By focusing on a specific enterprise, the research offers valuable insights into the practical challenges faced in real-world settings, making a pertinent contribution to the understanding of OHS application beyond traditional industrial environments. The methodology, employing qualitative approaches such as direct observation and interviews, is well-suited for an in-depth exploration of OHS issues. The findings effectively pinpoint critical areas of deficiency, specifically within the work environment and equipment, and attribute these to factors like a lack of worker discipline, sub-standard conditions, and irregular maintenance. While the abstract promises "solutions," the presented problem-solving efforts are somewhat high-level, suggesting a need for more detailed, actionable recommendations within the full paper. Furthermore, the mention of "simple" and non-standard equipment implies a context that might require tailored OHS interventions, differing significantly from more mechanized industries. Elaboration on the specific nature of these simplicity challenges and how proposed solutions address them would enhance the study's practical utility. Overall, this research serves as a valuable case study, shedding light on the real-world complexities of OHS implementation in agricultural settings. The identified issues regarding environmental conditions, equipment, and worker discipline are highly relevant and transferable to other similar operations. For future work, it would be beneficial to quantify the impact of these OHS deficiencies on accident rates and productivity, and to detail specific, implementable solutions rather than broad recommendations. The study lays a solid foundation for further research into developing sector-specific OHS frameworks and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions, ultimately contributing to safer and more sustainable agricultural practices.
