Abstract

El presente estudio examina, desde los postulados de la sostenibilidad turística, los hábitos de uso y la percepción de los visitantes en ranchos y balnearios del municipio de Tecate, Baja California (México). Para ello, se utilizó un enfoque de descripción cuantitativa a través de cuestionarios estructurados a una muestra de 290 usuarios seleccionados al azar. Los hallazgos demuestran la reciprocidad de estos espacios en proporcionar beneficios recreativos a la comunidad; uno que pueden utilizar para actividades familiares y relajación. Sin embargo, existen limitaciones sustanciales en cuanto a las instalaciones de infraestructura en general, principalmente en el número de baños y lugares con sombra disponibles; y finalmente, hay una conciencia importante acerca del impacto de los residuos y el agua en el medio ambiente. No obstante, a pesar de estas limitaciones, la mayoría de los usuarios revelan una alta disposición hacia la participación en programas de sostenibilidad, a saber, el pago de tarifas ecológicas y acciones de capacitación. También se afirma que construir un turismo recreativo sostenible en estos entornos rurales requiere una gestión integrada que integre planificación territorial, desarrollo de infraestructura y una gobernanza participativa. Los resultados ofrecen datos empíricos informativos para mejorar la gestión del turismo local y para informar el diseño de políticas públicas adaptadas a condiciones rurales y fronterizas como las de Tecate.

The paper effectively argues that building sustainable recreational tourism in these rural environments demands an integrated management strategy. This strategy must holistically combine territorial planning, strategic infrastructure development, and a robust framework for participatory governance involving local communities and stakeholders. The empirical data generated by this study offers valuable and actionable insights for enhancing local tourism management practices and for informing the design of public policies specifically tailored to the unique rural and border conditions found in Tecate. This work, therefore, represents a valuable contribution to the discourse on sustainable tourism, offering practical guidance for balancing recreational utility with environmental stewardship.
