Abstract

Review

This descriptive study, "Gambaran Pengetahuan, Sikap, dan Motivasi Mengenai Donor Darah pada Kegiatan Hemoglobin AMSA-UPR," effectively addresses a critical area of public health: ensuring the sustainable availability of blood through voluntary donations, especially among youth. The research clearly aims to characterize the knowledge, attitude, and motivation (KAM) towards blood donation among participants at SMAN 5 Palangka Raya. Utilizing a cross-sectional approach with 51 participants, the study provides a concise snapshot of key demographic profiles and, importantly, highlights predominantly good knowledge, positive attitudes, and strong motivation rooted in altruism. The findings offer valuable insights into the potential for fostering a strong culture of blood donation among high school students. The strengths of this study lie in its clear objective and the relevance of its findings. By focusing on high school students, the research identifies a crucial demographic for future blood donor recruitment. The consistently high scores for knowledge (76.5% good), attitude (96.1% positive), and motivation (92.2% driven by helping others) are particularly encouraging. Furthermore, the identification of electronic media as the primary source of information provides actionable intelligence for designing targeted awareness campaigns. These positive indicators strongly suggest that ongoing engagement and educational initiatives within this age group could significantly contribute to the long-term sustainability and growth of voluntary blood donation programs. While providing valuable insights, the study's descriptive, cross-sectional design and limited sample size (N=51) inherently restrict the generalizability of its findings beyond the immediate participant group. It offers a snapshot but does not delve into the underlying factors that *cause* these positive KAM levels, nor does it track actual donation behavior over time. It would also be beneficial for future research to explicitly clarify whether the "pendonor sukarela" (voluntary donors) referred to were *actual prior blood donors* or simply participants in the activity expressing willingness, as this distinction can influence the interpretation of "motivation." Expanding the scope to include a larger, more diverse sample, or incorporating a longitudinal design, would significantly enhance the understanding of how to cultivate and sustain a robust donor base among Indonesian youth.
