Abstract

Pekalongan City, as the center of batik culture, faces great challenges in integrating tradition with modern technology to support the sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Low access to formal financial services and digital literacy are major obstacles in improving the competitiveness of MSMEs in the digital era. This study aims to analyze the application of financial technology (fintech) among MSMEs in Pekalongan, identify challenges faced, and provide recommendations for strategic solutions. This research uses a qualitative approach with thematic analysis, data collected from various relevant secondary sources. The results show that fintech provides significant benefits, such as easing access to financial services, improving financial management efficiency, expanding market competitiveness, and encouraging product innovation. However, challenges include low digital literacy, limited internet infrastructure, and doubts about the security of digital transactions. Key recommendations include education and training for MSME players, strengthening digital infrastructure, and partnerships between the government and fintech providers. Collaboration between fintech and tradition has proven to be an effective synergy, not only in driving digital transformation but also maintaining local cultural identity. Keywords: Fintech, MSMEs, Pekalongan City, financial inclusion.

Review

This paper addresses a highly pertinent topic concerning the integration of financial technology (fintech) among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Pekalongan City, a region renowned for its batik culture. It effectively highlights the critical challenges faced by these traditional businesses, specifically low access to formal financial services and digital literacy, in an increasingly digital economy. The study sets out clear objectives: to analyze fintech application, identify obstacles, and propose strategic solutions. The abstract articulates significant benefits of fintech, such as enhanced financial access and efficiency, expanded market competitiveness, and stimulated product innovation. Crucially, it also identifies key barriers including low digital literacy, limited infrastructure, and trust issues, leading to relevant recommendations like education, infrastructure development, and multi-stakeholder partnerships. The overarching message of effective synergy between fintech and tradition in driving digital transformation while preserving cultural identity is particularly compelling. While the study tackles an important and timely subject, the methodological approach described in the abstract raises certain concerns regarding the depth and specificity of its findings. The reliance on a "qualitative approach with thematic analysis, data collected from various relevant secondary sources" might limit the originality and nuance of the insights, particularly given the aim to analyze *application* and *identify challenges* among *MSMEs in Pekalongan*. Without direct engagement with the MSMEs themselves through primary data collection (e.g., interviews, surveys, case studies), the analysis of how fintech *actually* collaborates with traditional batik culture or the specific manifestations of benefits and challenges within this unique context may remain somewhat theoretical or generalized. The recommendations, while sensible, would gain considerable strength and specificity if grounded in first-hand empirical evidence from the local Pekalongan business environment. Despite these methodological considerations, the paper offers a valuable conceptual framework for understanding the complexities of digital transformation in culturally significant regions. Its contribution lies in recognizing the dual imperative of technological advancement and cultural preservation, presenting a compelling case for the "Fintech di Kota Pekalongan: Ketika Tradisi dan Teknologi Berkolaborasi" narrative. For future research, it would be highly beneficial to augment this foundational work with robust primary data collection among Pekalongan's MSMEs. This would allow for a more granular understanding of their actual experiences, perceptions, and requirements, thereby validating the identified benefits and challenges with empirical evidence and refining the proposed solutions. Such an approach would undoubtedly strengthen the study's impact on policy-making and practical implementation, fostering sustainable growth while honoring local heritage.
