Abstract

Abstract: The status of widow is always associated with a negative stigma, especially for young widows or flower widows. Widow status is a status obtained due to divorce due to death (divorce) and divorce due to family problems or conflicts. Widow status carries a burden both emotionally and socially, especially for widows in the Manado context who experience social status discrimination. Janda Manado was formed due to the local popular cultural context of Manado and the influence of foreign cultural fashion. Manado widows are no longer seen as women in social status, but as social bodies that are seen only as sexual bodies. The aim of this research is to provide a critical analysis of socio-theological and ecofeminism. The research method used is research with a qualitative approach. The results of this research found that the Bible provides a clear theological basis for the socio-theological and ecofeminist analysis of the Manado widow context. In the text Exodus 22: 22 it is stated: "you shall not oppress a widow or an orphan" which means that Hebrew law also has rules that protect orphans and even widows.

Review

This paper, titled "Diskursus Diskursus Janda Manado," offers a timely and critical examination of the pervasive negative stigma associated with widowhood, particularly focusing on the unique context of Manado, Indonesia. The abstract effectively highlights the severe social and emotional burdens faced by widows, whose status is often reduced to a "social body" or even a "sexual body" within Manado's popular culture, influenced by both local and foreign trends. The authors clearly articulate their aim to provide a critical analysis of this profound societal issue, underscoring the urgency and relevance of their research for understanding and challenging gendered discrimination. To address this complex problem, the research adopts a qualitative approach, employing two distinct yet complementary theoretical frameworks: socio-theological analysis and ecofeminism. The integration of these perspectives is particularly promising, as it allows for a multi-layered understanding of the discrimination. Socio-theological analysis can delve into religious and ethical dimensions that perpetuate or challenge stigma, while ecofeminism can shed light on how power structures intersect with gender and social status, potentially revealing deeper systemic issues related to objectification and exploitation. This interdisciplinary lens offers a robust methodology for dissecting the cultural narratives and lived experiences of Manado widows. The initial findings presented in the abstract point towards a significant theological grounding for advocating on behalf of widows. By referencing Exodus 22:22, which explicitly states, "you shall not oppress a widow or an orphan," the authors establish that ancient Hebrew law—and by extension, religious texts—provides a clear ethical directive for protecting vulnerable groups, including widows. This theological basis serves as a powerful counter-narrative to the contemporary discrimination observed in Manado, suggesting that religious traditions can be a source of justice and protection rather than solely a contributor to stigma. The research thus offers a valuable foundation for socio-theological and ecofeminist interventions aimed at challenging and transforming the discourse surrounding widows in the Manado context.
