Abstract

Introduction: Premarital sexual behavior among adolescents has become an increasingly concerning issue due to its negative impact on physical, psychological, and social health. Adolescents are in a transitional phase that makes them vulnerable to external influences, such as peer pressure, media exposure, and environmental factors. This study aims to identify various factors influencing premarital sexual behavior in adolescents. Method: The method used is a literature review, based on 10 relevant national and international articles published between 2020 and 2025, obtained through databases such as Google Scholar and PubMed. Result: Statistical findings from the reviewed articles revealed significant correlations (p < 0.05) and high odds ratios (e.g., OR=9.444 for peer influence, OR=47.07 for parental role, and OR=6.718 for religiosity). These findings indicate that adolescents who are exposed to negative peer environments, lack parental guidance, or have limited understanding of sexual health and religion are more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior. Conclusion: Addressing premarital sexual behavior in adolescents requires a comprehensive preventive approach involving families, schools, government institutions, and media regulation to create a healthier developmental environment.

Review

This literature review, titled "Determinant Factors in Premarital Sexual Behavior in Adolescents," tackles a highly relevant and pressing public health issue. The authors clearly outline their objective to identify various factors influencing premarital sexual behavior in adolescents, a population particularly vulnerable during a transitional developmental phase. The study employs a systematic literature review methodology, synthesizing findings from 10 recent national and international articles published between 2020 and 2025, a timeframe that ensures the contemporary relevance of the evidence gathered. A significant strength of this review lies in its timely synthesis of existing research, offering a concise overview of determinants that contribute to premarital sexual behavior. The abstract effectively highlights key statistical findings from the reviewed articles, presenting compelling odds ratios for peer influence (OR=9.444), parental role (OR=47.07), and religiosity (OR=6.718). These quantitative summaries, even from secondary sources, powerfully underscore the substantial impact of these factors, indicating that negative peer environments, insufficient parental guidance, and limited understanding of sexual health and religion are strongly associated with increased risk. This comprehensive identification of multi-faceted factors provides valuable insights for understanding the complexity of the problem. While offering crucial insights, the abstract, as expected from a literature review, points towards the challenge of relying on diverse primary studies. A more in-depth critical appraisal of the methodologies and potential biases within the included 10 articles would enhance the robustness of the synthesis in a full paper. Nevertheless, the study's conclusion—advocating for a comprehensive, multi-sectoral preventive approach involving families, schools, government, and media regulation—is a logical and well-supported implication of its findings. This review serves as a valuable resource, providing a solid evidential base for the development of targeted and integrated interventions aimed at fostering healthier developmental environments for adolescents.
