De garengeot’s hernia – a rare clinical case and literature review. De Garengeot’s hernia is an extremely rare femoral hernia with appendix incarceration. Explore this challenging clinical case of a 74-year-old patient and literature review.
De Garengeot’s hernia represents an extremely rare form of femoral hernia with incarceration of the appendix within the hernial sac. The clinical presentation is nonspecific, which accounts for the high rate of intraoperative diagnosis. We present a 74-year-old female patient with a painful, irreducible mass in the right inguino-femoral region and signs of peritoneal irritation. Intraoperatively, a gangrenous appendix with perforation and fibrinopurulent peritonitis was found. Appendectomy and McVay repair were performed. De Garengeot’s hernia requires early recognition and appropriate surgical management.
