This study addresses a highly pertinent issue concerning working wives in a demanding professional context, specifically those employed in a hospital with a shift-based work system. The title clearly indicates a focus on understanding the "forms of social support" vital for achieving work-life balance (WLB), which is a significant challenge for many women globally. The abstract clearly articulates the research problem, highlighting the unique difficulties posed by shift work and the inherent need for social support. The objective to describe and analyze these forms of support is well-defined, promising valuable insights into the lived experiences of working wives navigating complex professional and personal demands. The qualitative descriptive approach employing in-depth interviews and observation is well-suited to the study's aim of exploring and describing the nuances of social support. This methodology allows for a rich understanding of the specific types of support received from various sources—family, close friends, and colleagues—categorized effectively as emotional, instrumental, informational, and social network support. The findings, as summarized, are compelling, indicating that this support actively contributes to reducing work pressure, enhancing psychological well-being, and fostering harmonization between work and family responsibilities. This provides a strong foundation for practical applications and acknowledges the multifaceted nature of support networks. The study offers valuable contributions to the literature on work-life balance and social support, particularly by grounding it in a specific, high-pressure environment like a hospital. The findings have direct implications for organizational policy-makers within healthcare, human resource managers, and even family members, in recognizing and fostering effective support systems. Future research could build upon these descriptive findings by exploring the differential impact or perceived effectiveness of various support types, perhaps incorporating a comparative element across different departments or even other professional sectors with similar shift-based structures. Furthermore, examining organizational interventions designed to enhance such support, or the interplay between formal organizational support and informal social networks, would be a logical next step to further strengthen the practical applicability of this significant work.
