Abstract

Abstract The issue of low environmental literacy among elementary school students underlies this study. The main objective is to analyze students’ needs for the development of a digital learning medium in the form of a flora-themed website to enhance environmental literacy from an early age. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method conducted at SDN 1 Bendo, Blitar City. Data collection techniques included questionnaires, observations, and interviews with students and teachers. The findings revealed that students have a high interest in technology-based learning and require interactive, visual, and contextual media. The average need for flora-based digital media ranged from 80% to 84.75%, while difficulties in understanding learning materials through conventional methods remained significant. The proposed website, Flora Fakta, is designed as an interactive learning medium integrated with QR codes that present localized flora information in a visual and contextual manner. This study underscores the urgency of integrating digital technology into environmental education at the elementary level as a strategic effort to enhance students' ecological awareness and learning enga flora, literasi, media digital, website edukatif. gement.

Review

This study effectively addresses the critical issue of low environmental literacy among elementary school students by proposing a novel digital solution. The research meticulously analyzes the needs of students and teachers for an interactive, flora-themed educational website. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with data gathered through questionnaires, observations, and interviews, the findings strongly indicate a high demand for technology-based learning and a significant need for digital media to overcome the limitations of conventional teaching methods. The proposed "Flora Fakta" website, conceptualized with QR Code integration for local flora information, demonstrates a well-considered approach to making environmental education engaging, visual, and contextually relevant for young learners, which is a significant strength of this needs analysis. While the study provides compelling evidence for the need of such a digital tool, it is important to note that this research focuses solely on the *analysis of needs* rather than the actual development or evaluation of the proposed website itself. As a qualitative descriptive study conducted at a single elementary school, the generalizability of its findings, while indicative, may be limited across broader educational contexts. Future research would significantly benefit from extending this work into the actual design, development, and rigorous testing of the "Flora Fakta" website. Evaluating its effectiveness in genuinely enhancing environmental literacy and student engagement through a robust intervention study would be the logical next step, offering empirical validation of the initial needs analysis. Overall, this study makes a valuable contribution by highlighting the urgent necessity and clear student interest in integrating digital technology into environmental education at the primary school level. By clearly articulating the pedagogical benefits of interactive, visual, and contextual digital media, it provides a strong theoretical and practical foundation for educators and curriculum developers seeking to innovate in this domain. The research serves as a robust call to action for the development of digital tools that can foster ecological awareness and improve learning engagement from an early age, underscoring the potential of technology to transform environmental literacy education and offering a promising pathway for future pedagogical advancements.
