Abstract

Ekosistem mangrove berperan penting dalam ekologi laut dan pesisir, salah satunya adalah sebagai tempat pemijahan dan pembesaran (nursery ground) bagi kepiting bakau. Kepiting bakau merupakan salah satu fauna akuatik yang hidup di sekitar hutan mangrove. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis mangrove dan jenis kepiting bakau yang ada di sekitar perairan PT Panply dan pengaruh parameter lingkungan terhadap kerapatan mangrove dan kepadatan kepiting bakau di perairan industri Panply. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan teknik jejajah atau eksplorasi yaitu terjun langsung di lapangan dalam melakukan pengamatan dan pengambilan sampel. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada 2 stasiun, stasiun I berada tepat di belakang PT Panply sedangkan stasiun II berada sekitar 100 meter dari PT Panply. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa di area industri Panply ditemukan 4 jenis mangrove yang terdiri dari Rhizophora mucronata, R. apiculata, Avisennia alba, dan Sonneratia alba. Serta 3 jenis kepiting bakau yang terdiri dari Scylla serrata, S. olivacea, dan S. tranquebarica. Terdapat korelasi antara kerapatan mangrove dengan suhu 0,667 (kuat). Korelasi antara kerapatan mangrove dengan pH 0,179 (sangat rendah). Korelasi antara kerapatan mangrove dengan salinitas, tidak dapat ditentukan nilai korelasinya karena data yang ada seragam. Korelasi antara kerapatan mangrove dengan kecerahan 0,148 (sangat rendah). Selain itu, didapatkan hubungan antara kepadatan kepiting bakau dengan fisika kimia air yaitu korelasi antara kepadatan kepiting bakau dengan suhu 0,879 (sangat kuat). Korelasi antara kepadatan kepiting bakau dengan pH 0,407 (sedang). Korelasi antara kepadatan kepiting bakau dengan salinitas 0,667 (kuat). Korelasi antara kepadatan kepiting bakau dengan kecerahan 0,333 (rendah).

This study presents an investigation into the physicochemical characteristics of waters surrounding the PT Panply industrial area and their influence on local mangrove and mud crab populations. The research aims to identify prevailing mangrove and mud crab species and quantify the correlations between environmental parameters and the density of these crucial ecological components. Employing a descriptive quantitative approach with direct field observation and sampling at two distinct stations, the paper seeks to provide insight into the ecological health of this industrial coastal zone. Overall, the study offers valuable baseline data on species presence and preliminary correlations, contributing to a better understanding of potential industrial impacts on sensitive coastal ecosystems. A significant strength of this research lies in its direct field-based methodology, which provides empirical evidence regarding the composition and density of mangrove and mud crab populations. The identification of four key mangrove species, including *Rhizophora mucronata* and *Sonneratia alba*, alongside three commercially important mud crab species, notably *Scylla serrata*, is crucial for biodiversity assessments in the area. The findings highlight strong correlations between mangrove density and temperature (0.667), and particularly striking correlations between mud crab density and temperature (0.879), as well as salinity (0.667). These results strongly suggest that temperature and salinity are significant environmental drivers influencing mud crab populations in the industrial waters studied. While providing important initial insights, the study has several limitations that warrant consideration. The inability to determine a correlation between mangrove density and salinity due to uniform data suggests that the chosen sampling strategy or observation period might not have captured sufficient environmental variability, necessitating a broader sampling design in future work. Furthermore, the very low correlations observed for pH and brightness with mangrove density, and a low correlation for brightness with mud crab density, require more in-depth discussion regarding their ecological significance or potential limitations of these parameters as primary indicators in this specific environment. Expanding the number of sampling stations, incorporating additional physicochemical parameters relevant to industrial discharge (e.g., heavy metals), and conducting longer-term monitoring would significantly enhance the robustness and comprehensiveness of future research in this ecologically sensitive area.
