Abstract

Review

This paper, titled "Afetos Insurgentes: Enquadramentos de um ativismo anarquista relacional," presents a timely and relevant analysis of how a specific Brazilian digital project mobilizes for non-monogamous political causes through relational anarchist activism. By focusing on "Afetos Insurgentes" and employing Snow et al.'s (1986) frame alignment theory, the authors offer a valuable contribution to understanding contemporary digital social movements. The abstract clearly outlines the study's objective: to comprehend the communicative approaches used by the project from 2019 to 2023. The key finding, that all frame alignment strategies are utilized, with a particular emphasis on frame transformation challenging monogamy, signals a detailed and insightful exploration of the project's communication efforts. One of the significant strengths of this study lies in its choice of object: "Afetos Insurgentes." As a digital project active since 2019, it provides a contemporary and dynamic case study for examining the intersection of digital communication, social activism, and the politics of relationships in a non-Western context. The application of frame alignment theory is well-suited for dissecting the nuanced communication strategies employed to challenge deeply ingrained social norms like monogamy. The explicit identification of "frame transformation" as a prominent strategy suggests a robust analysis of how the project actively seeks to reframe societal understandings, thus offering valuable insights into the mechanisms of ideational change within social movements. This focus on "relational anarchist activism" also promises to enrich scholarly understanding of diverse forms of political mobilization. While the abstract provides a strong overview, the full paper would benefit from greater methodological detail regarding the analysis of the Medium texts, perhaps specifying the qualitative analytical approach taken within the frame alignment framework. Further elaboration on the unique characteristics of "relational anarchist activism" in the Brazilian context and how it shapes the communication strategies would also enhance the study's depth and theoretical contribution. While the paper identifies strategies, a discussion, even if brief, on the potential impact or perceived effectiveness of these strategies in achieving mobilization goals could provide a more comprehensive picture of the project's influence. Nonetheless, this promises to be an important contribution to studies of digital activism, social movement communication, and the politics of non-monogamy.
