Introduction

A representaÇÃo do imaginÁrio medieval nas obras de epic fantasy: o caso de as crÔnicas de gelo e fogo. Estudo da representação do imaginário medieval na epic fantasy, via "As Crônicas de Gelo e Fogo". Compara ficção e história para entender a percepção contemporânea da Idade Média.

Abstract

Atualmente temos uma extensa produção literária capaz de nos transportar de nossa realidade, muitas vezes entediante, para mundos de épicas aventuras. O elemento maravilhoso, uma vez absorvido pela literatura medieval e posteriormente presença constante em diversas manifestações culturais, se faz também cada vez mais presente em inúmeras produções contemporâneas. Assim, a produtiva mescla entre arte e fantasia tem, paulatinamente, influenciado a nossa percepção da História, criando um imaginário contemporâneo ocidental sobre a Idade Média, muitas vezes conflitante com os fatos históricos do medievo. Neste trabalho, observamos como o maravilhoso se reflete para nós através de um gênero literário em especial, a epic fantasy, e dessa forma podemos estudar suas similaridades e suas diferenças para com a literatura medieval e os dados históricos, recolhidos de obras de importantes historiadores, a fim de compreendermos como é formado esse imaginário sobre o medievo, hoje largamente difundido. Sendo um trabalho comparativo, a metodologia proposta aqui consiste em partir da reapropriação de elementos medievais na série de romances de George R. R. Martin, As Crônicas de Gelo e Fogo, e analisá-la tendo em vista parâmetros literários, estruturais, estéticos e históricos. Com base nas análises feitas, os resultados obtidos estabelecem um forte vínculo do imaginário popular sobre o medievo com o poder criativo das utopias através da literatura.
