Turkulaisen ihmislajin alkuperästä. Monitieteinen salapoliisitarina.
The paper, intriguingly titled "On the origin of the Turku human species: A multidisciplinary detective story," addresses a fascinating and somewhat controversial claim regarding the population genetics of the Turku region in Finland. The abstract outlines a specific assertion that the Turku area exhibits a higher prevalence of the eastern-B blood group, purportedly linked to historical Russian garrisons. What makes this study particularly timely and relevant is the revelation that this unverified information is being leveraged by the Turku municipal travel agency, TurkuTouring, for marketing purposes aimed at Russian tourists, raising significant ethical concerns. The author clearly articulates the ethical imperative to challenge and correct this inaccurate information. The commitment to demonstrating the falsehood of this claim "with the help of biology experts" suggests a robust, evidence-based approach, living up to the "multidisciplinary" promise of the title. Beyond mere refutation, the paper also intends to meticulously trace the origin of this misinformation, adding a valuable layer of historical and sociological inquiry to the biological investigation. This critical engagement with both scientific accuracy and the responsible dissemination of information is a significant strength of the proposed work. This study holds considerable potential to contribute to several fields. It promises to clarify biological and historical misconceptions surrounding the Turku population, serving as a model for rigorous scientific debunking. Furthermore, by exposing the misuse of unsubstantiated claims in public marketing, it offers important insights into ethical communication and tourism practices. The paper's commitment to scientific accuracy and ethical responsibility makes it a compelling read for researchers in population genetics, history, ethics, and tourism studies. Given the clear objectives, strong ethical grounding, and promise of a multidisciplinary investigation, this paper is highly recommended for publication.
