This study addresses a highly pertinent and globally relevant issue: the transformative impact of online transportation services on conventional modes within a specific urban context, Pematangsiantar City. The research employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing direct interviews and observational surveys, to investigate local perceptions regarding shifting transportation choices. The abstract effectively highlights a significant consumer preference toward online transportation, driven by perceived time efficiency and convenience. Crucially, the study identifies a tangible negative impact on conventional drivers, such as Angkot and Becak operators, manifested through a decline in their income, thereby offering a focused insight into the socio-economic consequences of digitalization. While the abstract provides a clear overview of the study's aims and primary findings, several areas could benefit from further elaboration in the full paper. The scope of "people's perceptions" is mentioned, yet the core finding heavily emphasizes the impact on conventional drivers. A deeper exploration of the nuances of passenger perceptions beyond mere efficiency and convenience – perhaps touching on safety, comfort, or cost differences from the user's perspective – would enrich the analysis. Similarly, while challenges and opportunities are identified for conventional drivers, the abstract does not detail what these specifically entail beyond income decline. A more granular discussion on issues like digital literacy, access to technology, regulatory frameworks, or potential adaptive strategies for conventional drivers would provide a more comprehensive picture. Despite these points for potential expansion, the study lays a valuable foundation for understanding local transportation dynamics. The implications drawn, particularly for government and transportation service providers, are highly relevant, suggesting the need for adaptive policies and improved service quality. Future work could build upon these findings by proposing specific policy interventions, such as retraining programs for conventional drivers, subsidies, or integration strategies that could bridge the gap between traditional and modern services. Overall, this research provides a timely and important contribution to the literature on urban transportation transformation and its socio-economic ramifications, offering a clear basis for informed decision-making in Pematangsiantar and potentially similar urban settings.
