Abstract

Review

This article presents a compelling and timely investigation into the fascinating realm of intermedial transposition, specifically focusing on the intersection of literature, music, and popular culture through the work of Taylor Swift. The study's premise, that Swift's songs composed for film adaptations function not merely as soundtrack accompaniments but as profound poetic-musical reinterpretations of their literary sources, is both innovative and intellectually stimulating. By selecting "Safe & Sound," "Eyes Open," and "Carolina" in relation to *The Hunger Games* and *Where the Crawdads Sing*, the research establishes a clear and intriguing scope, promising to shed light on how contemporary popular music can engage in sophisticated dialogue with established literary narratives. The methodology outlined for this research appears robust and well-suited to its ambitious aims. Grounded in a qualitative and interpretative approach, the article leverages comparative textual analysis between the original novels and Swift's lyrical compositions. This choice is appropriate for dissecting the nuanced ways in which musical language incorporates textual elements, thereby recreating atmospheres, narrative voices, and core emotional landscapes. The reliance on established scholarship in music-literature relations, citing figures such as Solange Oliveira and Stevan Paul Scher, provides a solid theoretical framework, suggesting a rigorous academic underpinning for exploring how Swift's compositions engage in a creative and sensitive dialogue with their source material. The anticipated conclusions of the article hold significant merit, positing that Swift's compositions transcend their immediate function as film accompaniments to emerge as autonomous poetic forms. By demonstrating how these songs amplify and deepen the symbolic, affective, and narrative meanings of the original literary works, the research promises to contribute significantly to adaptation studies, intermediality, and the appreciation of popular music's capacity for complex artistic engagement. This study has the potential to offer valuable insights into the dynamic relationship between different artistic mediums and to elevate the critical understanding of how popular artists can act as sophisticated literary interpreters.
