Abstract

Review

The paper "Skrining Kesehatan Penduduk di Bukit Rawi, Palangka Raya, Kalimantan Tengah" addresses a highly pertinent public health challenge by investigating the prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, and hyperuricemia within a specific Indonesian community. The authors appropriately highlight the increasing incidence of these non-communicable diseases at younger ages, underscoring the urgency of early detection and intervention. Framed as a community service initiative, the study's dual objective—to educate residents on preventive health and to ascertain the burden of these conditions—is both commendable and crucial for regional health planning. A significant strength of this work lies in its direct engagement with the community through health education and accessible screening. The methodology, employing standard tools such as aneroid sphygmomanometers for blood pressure and Point of Care Testing for blood glucose and uric acid, indicates a practical and effective approach to data collection in a field setting. The initial findings are particularly insightful: the observation that hypertension and hyperuricemia are more prevalent in women, while diabetes is more common in men, provides valuable gender-disaggregated data that can inform the development of targeted, gender-sensitive public health programs. While the abstract provides a compelling overview, a full manuscript would benefit from further elaboration on certain aspects. Specifically, clarifying the "qualitative approach" within a descriptive study that primarily reports quantitative screening results would enhance methodological rigor. Additionally, future iterations or the full report should detail the scope and content of the educational interventions, as well as concrete examples or frameworks for the suggested "village programs" to address the identified health disparities. Nonetheless, this initiative represents a vital step in understanding and responding to the health needs of the Bukit Rawi community, providing a solid foundation for subsequent, more comprehensive public health strategies.
