Abstract

This study aims to explore the concept of diversity within the Sapta Darma belief system, and the strategies adopted by its adherents to navigate social change. This research employs a library research approach. According to Mestika Zed, library research involves a systematic process of collecting, reading, annotating, and analyzing data from various scholarly sources. It encompasses the examination of reference books, prior research findings, and academic literature to establish a theoretical foundation for the study. Literature review is also used as a data collection technique by analyzing books, notes, and reports relevant to the research problem. The findings indicate that the Sapta Darma belief system upholds a profound understanding of diversity, reflected in its principles of tolerance and inclusivity toward different societal groups. The Sapta Darma community employs adaptive and flexible strategies to respond to social, political, and cultural transformations while preserving the essence of its teachings. These adaptation strategies include modifications in worship practices, societal engagement, and the integration of technological advancements, particularly in the use of social media. This research provides new insights into how local belief systems sustain their existence and remain resilient amid continuous societal changes.

Review

This study promises a timely and valuable exploration into the Sapta Darma belief system, focusing on its conceptualization of diversity and adaptive strategies in the face of social change. The topic is highly relevant, contributing to our understanding of how indigenous or local belief systems maintain cohesion and relevance in rapidly evolving societies. The abstract effectively outlines the core aims, highlighting the system's "profound understanding of diversity" and its "principles of tolerance and inclusivity." The stated findings regarding the community's adaptive and flexible strategies, including modifications in worship, societal engagement, and technological integration, offer compelling insights into cultural resilience and dynamic spiritual practice. However, a critical review of the methodology, as described, warrants further clarification. The research explicitly employs a "library research approach," involving the systematic collection and analysis of scholarly sources, reference books, and prior research. While this approach is foundational for establishing theoretical frameworks and understanding historical contexts, its exclusive reliance might pose limitations when exploring "strategies adopted by its adherents to navigate social change," particularly concerning "modifications in worship practices" and "societal engagement." The abstract mentions "literature review is also used as a data collection technique by analyzing books, notes, and reports relevant to the research problem." It would strengthen the paper to specify how these sources provide current, empirical evidence for contemporary adaptive strategies rather than historical or doctrinal perspectives alone. Further detail on the *types* of "notes and reports" would be beneficial to assess the empirical basis for the findings on modern adaptations. Despite these methodological points, the research offers significant "new insights into how local belief systems sustain their existence and remain resilient amid continuous societal changes." The findings, particularly the focus on adaptive strategies like technological integration, underscore the dynamic nature of faith communities. This study lays a crucial groundwork for future research, potentially inviting comparative analyses with other local belief systems or more empirical qualitative studies to delve deeper into the *lived experiences* and *impact* of these adaptive strategies. Overall, this paper makes a pertinent contribution to the fields of religious studies, sociology, and cultural anthropology, offering a nuanced perspective on the interplay between tradition and modernity.
