Abstract

Tempo. Aurélia Steiner. Marguerite Duras. Gilles Deleuze. AbstractIn this article, we start from the writing of Marguerite Duras to reflect on its intrinsic relationship with the sea and its resonances with memory. If Duras was always by the sea when she wrote, as she used to say, I propose here a view of her texts in this moving and overpowering space. What is the potency of a writing that, oceanic, moves and summons multiple memories, times and subjects? In order to reflect on this and other issues, we will focus here on the three Aurélia Steiner, homonymous texts written and published by Duras in 1979, in which we see a strong relationship and tension between sea and memory, time and space, unity and multiplicity. To this purpose, we dialogue with the so-called philosophy of difference, especially the thinking of Gilles Deleuze, aiming to expand the horizons of Duras' work analysis. Keywords: Memory. Time. Aurélia Seiner. Marguerite Duras. Gilles Deleuze.

Review

The article, titled "Restará ainda o mar," immediately sets an evocative tone, hinting at themes of vastness, persistence, and an enduring mystery, much like the sea itself. The abstract clearly outlines an ambitious and compelling project: to explore Marguerite Duras's writing through the lens of her stated intrinsic relationship with the sea and its profound resonances with memory. The author proposes a reading of Duras's texts as "moving and overpowering" oceanic spaces, directly engaging with the author's own self-commentary on writing "by the sea." This exploration is anchored by the central question of the potency of such an "oceanic" writing to evoke multiple memories, times, and subjects, promising a rich analysis. A significant strength of this proposed study lies in its focused textual engagement with the three *Aurélia Steiner* texts. These homonymous works, published in 1979, are aptly chosen as a critical locus for examining the "strong relationship and tension between sea and memory, time and space, unity and multiplicity" that the abstract highlights. The theoretical framework, drawing on the philosophy of difference, and specifically the thought of Gilles Deleuze, offers a promising methodological approach. This Deleuzian lens is poised to extend existing horizons of Duras scholarship, potentially unveiling new layers of interpretation regarding her complex engagement with temporalities, identities, and the very act of creation itself. The abstract suggests a rigorous and innovative interdisciplinary dialogue between literary analysis and continental philosophy. While the abstract provides a strong foundation, the full article would benefit from a more explicit articulation of which specific Deleuzian concepts will be leveraged to illuminate Duras's work. For instance, whether the concepts of the rhizome, nomadology, repetition and difference, or specific aspects of his philosophy of time (e.g., Aion/Chronos, virtuality/actuality) will be central would help to further delineate the analytical trajectory. Ensuring a robust balance between the philosophical inquiry and detailed textual analysis of the *Aurélia Steiner* texts will be crucial to maximize the impact of this study. Nevertheless, the article presents a highly original and thought-provoking inquiry that promises to make a valuable contribution to both Duras studies and contemporary literary theory.
