Abstract

Demand for pak choi plants has continued to increase in recent years, but due to pest attacks, it has caused unstable production of pak choi plants. The main pests that attack pak choi plants are armyworms and caterpillars. One way to control pests on pak choi plants is to use organic-based biopesticide that are safer to use. One of the organic materials that can be used for organic pesticides is goat weed leaves. Goat weed is a nuisance weed that lives wild and is found in many regions in Indonesia. Goat weed plants can be used as biopesticide because goat weed plants have bioactive content that is anti-pest. The factor studied in this. research is the treatment of goat weed leaf extract with five concentration levels repeated as many as four replicates so as to get 20 units of experimental units. The results obtained from this study are pests that attack pak choi plants in this study are armyworms, tritip caterpillars, and flea beetles. Application of botanical pesticide solution of goat weed leaves has an effect on pest control in pak choi plants. The best concentration in the application of goat weed leaves solution is at a concentration of 20%, namely with a value of pest attack intensity on pak choi of 3.1%.

Review

This paper addresses a critical issue in agricultural sustainability, focusing on the escalating demand for pak choi and the significant challenges posed by pest infestations that lead to unstable production. The authors propose an environmentally sound solution by exploring the efficacy of *Ageratum conyzoides* (goat weed) as a biopesticide. This approach is highly relevant, leveraging a widely available natural resource for pest control, aligning with current trends in organic farming, and aiming to reduce reliance on synthetic chemicals. The choice of *Ageratum conyzoides*, a common nuisance weed with known bioactive content, highlights a practical and accessible solution for farmers. The experimental design involved evaluating five different concentrations of *A. conyzoides* leaf extract, replicated four times across 20 experimental units, to identify an optimal application strategy. The study successfully identified armyworms, tritip caterpillars, and flea beetles as the primary pests attacking pak choi plants, confirming the relevance of their pest control efforts. Crucially, the results demonstrate that the botanical pesticide solution significantly impacts pest control in pak choi. The abstract highlights a clear optimum, with the 20% concentration emerging as the most effective, achieving a remarkably low pest attack intensity of 3.1%. These findings present a promising natural alternative for managing common pests in pak choi cultivation, offering a viable path towards more sustainable and organic farming practices. The demonstrated efficacy at a specific concentration provides a valuable starting point for practical application. While the abstract provides a strong indication of efficacy, future research would benefit from identifying the specific bioactive compounds responsible for the pesticidal activity, investigating its long-term effects on plant health and yield, and conducting larger-scale field trials across varied environmental conditions. Further studies into the economic feasibility, formulation stability, and potential impacts on non-target organisms would also strengthen the practical adoption of this botanical pesticide.
