Review

This study, "PERJALANAN METRO SIANTAR: DARI POS METRO HINGGA MEDIA UNGGULAN KOTA PEMATANGSIANTAR," offers a valuable contribution to the field of city history by meticulously tracing the evolution of Metro Siantar, a pioneering local mass media outlet in Pematangsiantar City and Simalungun Regency. The abstract clearly articulates the newspaper's journey from its inception in 2003 as Pos Metro Siantar, initially focusing on crime news under the Jawa Pos National Network, to its transformation in 2006 into Metro Siantar, broadening its editorial scope to general daily news. This historical account is significant as it documents the genesis and development of a crucial local institution, highlighting its instrumental role as the first local mass media, thereby enriching our understanding of urban communication landscapes in Indonesia. The research employs a robust historical study method, encompassing topic selection, heuristics (source collection), source criticism/verification, interpretation, and historical historiography. This systematic approach is appropriate for an in-depth exploration of media history, ensuring a rigorous and verifiable account. The abstract provides key milestones, such as the initial publication date, name changes, shifts in editorial focus, and geographic coverage, which are essential markers in charting the newspaper's trajectory. While the abstract effectively outlines the method and key findings, the full paper would benefit from a more detailed discussion of the specific types of sources collected during the heuristics phase and examples of source criticism applied to ensure the reliability and authenticity of the historical narrative. Overall, this study presents a compelling and well-structured historical analysis that is highly relevant to scholars of media studies, local history, and Indonesian studies. By chronicling the journey of Metro Siantar, the research not only fills a gap in the documented history of Pematangsiantar and Simalungun but also offers insights into the broader trends of local media development and their integration into national networks. The paper successfully establishes Metro Siantar's significant role as a local media pioneer. This foundational work could potentially inspire further research into the societal impact, economic challenges, and journalistic practices that shaped Metro Siantar's influence within its community.
