This paper presents a focused and relevant effort to enhance the academic experience at Universitas Mulawarman by designing a mobile-based "SI Presensi" application. The authors clearly identify a practical problem stemming from issues with the existing SIPLO system, substantiated by interviews with students and lecturers. The chosen methodology, Design Thinking, is highly appropriate for user interface and user experience design, emphasizing a user-centered approach from problem identification (Empathize, Define) through solution generation (Ideate, Prototype) and validation (Test). The stated objective of creating a design that addresses user needs and problems, backed by a strong System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 79.4, indicates a successful application of the methodology. A key strength of this research lies in its user-centric foundation. By initiating the process with direct user interviews and competitor analysis, the authors ensure that the proposed solution is grounded in genuine needs and pain points, a critical aspect of effective UI/UX design. The application of the five-stage Design Thinking process provides a robust framework, guiding the development of a design solution that is not only functional but also user-friendly. The empirical validation through the SUS score, categorizing the design as "Baik" (Good), provides concrete evidence of the design's usability and effectiveness, strongly supporting the claim that Design Thinking is an effective method for creating user-aligned solutions. This pragmatic approach offers a valuable contribution to the field of academic information systems, particularly in the context of mobile application development. While the abstract provides a compelling overview, a more detailed elaboration on certain aspects would further strengthen the paper. Specifically, the execution of each Design Thinking stage could benefit from further description; for instance, what specific techniques were employed during the "Ideate" phase, and the scope and number of participants involved in the "Test" phase beyond the SUS score. Furthermore, while the abstract mentions the SIPLO issues as motivation, a clearer articulation of how the proposed 'SI Presensi' design specifically resolves the *identified* SIPLO problems would highlight the direct impact and novelty of the solution. Future work could also consider the implications for implementation and subsequent real-world usage beyond the prototype stage.
