Abstract

Kayuputih Village is a tourist village in Buleleng Regency, located in the highlands overlooking Lovina Beach at the foot of the hill. This geographical contour presents unique issues related to healthcare access, particularly for vulnerable populations such as pregnant women. The goal of this community service activity is to increase the empowerment of all stakeholders to improve the status of mothers and children: families, village midwives, community health center programmers, and the village government. The program is designed to increase the knowledge, skills, and confidence of pregnant women in preparing for motherhood, while simultaneously improving women's overall health and well-being. Through a combination of health education, interactive discussions, and practical demonstrations, participants are empowered to understand maternal health, nutrition, mental readiness, and newborn care. The activity also highlights the importance of maintaining women's physical and emotional health as the foundation for healthy families and communities. Findings indicate that participants gained increased awareness and self-efficacy in managing pregnancy, childbirth, and early childhood care. This increased empowerment is evident in the 80 percent of participants who attended were willing and correctly carried out the stages of breast and newborn care according to the checklist. This initiative contributes to public health promotion by cultivating informed, resilient, and supportive mothers who can effectively nurture future generations.

Review

This paper presents a valuable community service initiative titled “Becoming Mother and Nurturing Women’s Health,” focused on the empowerment of pregnant women in Kayuputih Village, Buleleng Regency. The abstract effectively highlights the unique geographical challenges of this highland tourist village, which impact healthcare access for vulnerable populations, making the chosen intervention site particularly pertinent. The project's ambitious goal of empowering not only pregnant women but also key stakeholders—families, village midwives, community health center programmers, and the local government—demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the ecosystem required for sustainable improvements in maternal and child health status. The program's design is robust, integrating health education, interactive discussions, and practical demonstrations to enhance the knowledge, skills, and confidence of pregnant women. The curriculum wisely covers critical aspects such as maternal health, nutrition, mental readiness, and newborn care, while also emphasizing the foundational role of women's overall physical and emotional health. The reported findings indicate a positive immediate impact, with participants exhibiting increased awareness and self-efficacy in managing various stages of pregnancy and early childcare. The concrete outcome, wherein 80 percent of participants willingly and correctly performed breast and newborn care according to a checklist, serves as a strong indicator of the program's effectiveness in skill transfer and practical empowerment. Ultimately, this initiative makes a meaningful contribution to public health promotion by fostering a generation of informed, resilient, and supportive mothers. By enhancing individual capabilities and engaging broader community structures, the program lays crucial groundwork for improving the well-being of families and the long-term health of future generations. While the abstract provides a compelling overview of the program's successes, it implicitly highlights the potential for further research into the long-term sustainability of these gains and the broader impact on the empowerment of all identified stakeholders within the community.
