Vaginal discharge is one of the most common reproductive health problems experienced by adolescent girls, often causing discomfort, reducing self-confidence, and potentially leading to more serious reproductive health issues if not properly managed. Limited knowledge and negative attitudes toward genital hygiene are among the contributing factors to its high prevalence. Health education using audiovisual media is considered an effective strategy for delivering health messages, as it combines visual and auditory elements that are more engaging, easier to understand, and capable of improving information retention. This study aims to analyze the effect of audiovisual-based health education on adolescent girls’ knowledge and attitudes regarding the prevention of vaginal discharge. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was applied, involving 60 students equally divided into intervention and control groups selected through total sampling. The research instrument consisted of validated and reliable questionnaires measuring knowledge and attitudes. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test, revealing a significant improvement in the intervention group after receiving audiovisual health education (p < 0.05), while no meaningful change occurred in the control group. These findings indicate that audiovisual health education is effective in enhancing adolescents’ understanding and fostering positive attitudes toward the prevention of vaginal discharge. Consequently, the approach is recommended for integration into school health programs and community-based interventions as an innovative and sustainable method to promote reproductive health among adolescents.
The paper, "Pengaruh Pendidikan Kesehatan dengan Media Audiovisual tentang Pencegahan Keputihan terhadap Pengetahuan dan Sikap Remaja Putri," addresses a highly relevant and common reproductive health issue among adolescent girls: vaginal discharge. The study effectively highlights the critical role of limited knowledge and negative attitudes in exacerbating this problem, thereby establishing a strong rationale for its intervention. A key strength lies in its selection of audiovisual media, which is inherently engaging and well-suited for delivering health messages to a young audience. The abstract clearly demonstrates a significant improvement in both knowledge and attitudes within the intervention group, validating the effectiveness of this educational approach and underscoring its potential as a valuable strategy for promoting adolescent reproductive health. Methodologically, the study employed a robust quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group, allowing for a clear comparative assessment of the intervention's impact. The sample size of 60 participants, equally divided and selected via total sampling, provides a reasonable basis for the observed effects. The use of validated and reliable questionnaires for measuring knowledge and attitudes strengthens the internal validity of the findings, ensuring that the instruments accurately captured the intended constructs. The application of the Wilcoxon test for data analysis is appropriate for the reported data type, and the consistently significant p-values (p < 0.05) convincingly support the main conclusions regarding the intervention's efficacy. While the abstract is concise, a brief mention of the specific duration of the audiovisual intervention or more details about its content would provide even greater methodological clarity. The findings of this study carry significant practical implications, strongly recommending the integration of audiovisual health education into existing school health programs and community-based interventions. Its demonstrated effectiveness in enhancing understanding and fostering positive attitudes positions it as an innovative and sustainable method for reproductive health promotion among adolescents, particularly concerning a sensitive topic like vaginal discharge prevention. For future research, it would be valuable to explore the long-term retention of knowledge and attitude changes, the scalability of such programs across diverse cultural or socioeconomic settings, or comparative studies with other educational modalities to identify optimal delivery strategies. Overall, this paper makes a substantial contribution to the field of adolescent reproductive health education, providing compelling evidence for an accessible and engaging educational strategy.
