Abstract

Salah satu komponen penting dalam kegiatan budidaya yaitu ketersediaan pakan yang mengandung submateri dan energy yang dapat memenuhi seluruh kebutuhan ikan dalam meningkatkan kualitas hidupnya. Kendala utama para pembudidaya yaitu harga pakan komersial yang mahal. Maggot (Hermetia illucens) memiliki potensi sebagai bahan alternatif bagi pakan yang dapat diolah menjadi pellet yang dapat diberikan kepada ikan patin. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pemberian maggot yang dikombinasikan dengan pakan komersial dapat berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan ikan patin (Pangasius hypophthalmus) dan untuk mengetahui kombinasi terbaik terhadap pertumbuhan dan penambahan bobot ikan patin (Pangasius hypophthalmus). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari 5 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan. Frekuensi pemberian pakan 2 kali sehari pagi dan sore. Pengukuran panjang, bobot,kualitas air, dan tingkat kelangsungan hidup dilakukan setiap 15 hari sekali. Hasil dari penelitian ini didapatkan pertumbuhan panjang dan bobot tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan D dengan kombinasi 25% pakan komersial dan 75% pellet Maggot, yaitu 12,46 cm dan 18,17 gram serta nilai kelangusngan hidup 100%.

The research aims to determine the effect of combining maggot meal with commercial feed on the growth of Pangasius catfish and identify the optimal combination for enhanced growth and weight gain. This objective is highly relevant given the increasing demand for sustainable aquaculture practices and the need to reduce operational costs for farmers, highlighting the potential of insect-based proteins to address these issues. The methodology employed an experimental design using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and four replicates, providing a structured approach to compare different feed combinations. Feeding was conducted twice daily, and key parameters such as length, weight, water quality, and survival rate were meticulously measured every 15 days. The findings are particularly promising, indicating that the highest growth in length (12.46 cm) and weight (18.17 grams) was achieved with Treatment D, which consisted of 25% commercial feed and 75% maggot pellet. Furthermore, this optimal combination also resulted in an impressive 100% survival rate, underscoring its efficacy not just for growth but also for fish health. Overall, this research offers valuable insights into the potential of maggot meal as a primary feed component for Pangasius catfish. The identification of a specific combination (25% commercial feed, 75% maggot pellet) that significantly boosts growth and survival is a strong contribution to sustainable aquaculture. Future studies could delve deeper into the long-term effects, detailed nutritional analysis of the maggot pellets, the cost-benefit analysis of such a feed formulation, and palatability assessments to further validate and optimize its application in large-scale commercial settings. Nevertheless, this paper provides a solid foundation for utilizing insect-based protein in aquafeeds, paving the way for more environmentally friendly and economically viable fish farming.
