Artikel ini mengkaji praktik keagamaan & iman sebagai terapi meredakan kecemasan & meningkatkan kesejahteraan.
The phenomenon of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is increasingly prevalent among older adults due to greater exposure to digital technology, particularly social media. Feelings of being left behind, disconnected, or out of touch with current developments may trigger anxiety and emotional distress within this demographic. In this context, the Islamic psychospiritual approach is viewed as an effective and holistic alternative in alleviating emerging psychological effects. This article examines the dimensions of Islamic psychospirituality based on one’s direct relationship with Allah SWT through faith and outward religious practices as therapeutic elements for emotional imbalance and spiritual emptiness. The study adopts a qualitative approach through content analysis of authoritative sources and scholarly opinions. Supporting data from previous studies and literature on the psychological well-being of older adults are also incorporated. The findings indicate that the strength of spiritual faith and religious practices, complemented by social support, can stabilise emotions and reduce FOMO-related stress among older adults, particularly those with limited social support or low engagement in the digital sphere. This article suggests that psychospiritual approaches should serve as a foundational framework in developing well-being modules for older adults, in alignment with Islamic values and the challenges of the contemporary digital age.
This article addresses the timely and increasingly relevant phenomenon of Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) among older adults, a demographic often overlooked in discussions of digital technology's impact. The authors propose an Islamic psychospiritual approach as a holistic and effective intervention, a valuable perspective given the growing body of literature on the benefits of spirituality in mental well-being. The conceptualization of Islamic psychospirituality, emphasizing a direct relationship with Allah SWT through faith and outward religious practices, offers a culturally sensitive and robust framework for understanding and mitigating psychological distress. The qualitative approach, utilizing content analysis of authoritative sources and scholarly opinions, alongside supporting literature on older adults' well-being, provides a solid methodological foundation for exploring this complex issue. The findings compellingly suggest that spiritual faith, religious practices, and social support collectively contribute to emotional stability and a reduction in FOMO-related stress, particularly for older adults with limited social engagement or digital participation. This nuanced insight is crucial, as it highlights the specific demographics within the older adult population that could benefit most from such interventions. While the abstract effectively outlines the proposed framework and its potential benefits, a deeper elaboration on the specific mechanisms through which these spiritual practices translate into reduced FOMO, beyond general emotional stabilization, would further strengthen the argument. For instance, exploring how gratitude (syukur), patience (sabr), or remembrance of God (dhikr) directly counter the feelings of inadequacy or being left behind inherent in FOMO could provide richer insights. Overall, this article makes a significant contribution by bridging contemporary psychological challenges with traditional Islamic wisdom, offering a practical and culturally resonant solution for a vulnerable population. The recommendation to integrate psychospiritual approaches into foundational well-being modules for older adults, aligning with Islamic values and the digital age's challenges, is particularly commendable. This work not only provides a valuable theoretical framework but also lays the groundwork for developing targeted, effective interventions. Future research could explore empirical validation of these proposed interventions through pilot studies or randomized controlled trials, further solidifying the evidence base for Islamic psychospiritual care in addressing FOMO among older adults.
