Abstract

This community service is carried out based on the needs of the Community Protection Organizer (LINMAS) in Gandekan Village, Surakarta, regarding improving communication techniques to the surrounding community in providing public services, by implementing Literacy, Communication, and Public Speaking as materials presented to explore the needs of solving problems commonly faced by LINMAS personnel, including Waste Problems, Public Complaints with social problems, and so on. This is done with the aim of optimizing the services that have been mandated so that they are more active, productive, and optimal. Community service is carried out using a qualitative descriptive method, with group communication (Workshop) for more than 240 minutes. The results of Community Service with the Workshop method present the needs in terms of developing communication and applications that are used as a means of reporting and information on social life in the Gandekan Village environment.

Review

This community service initiative addresses a pertinent and practical challenge faced by local community protection organizations (LINMAS) in Gandekan Village, Surakarta: enhancing their communication efficacy in delivering public services. The project's core objective is to optimize service delivery by equipping LINMAS personnel with improved communication techniques, specifically through training in Literacy, Communication, and Public Speaking. This focus on practical skill development to tackle real-world issues like waste management and public complaints highlights a valuable approach to community engagement and capacity building, making it a relevant contribution to the field of local governance and public service improvement. The methodology employed, a qualitative descriptive approach utilizing a group communication workshop spanning over 240 minutes, appears suitable for identifying and exploring the communication needs of the LINMAS organization. The direct engagement through a workshop format is a strong point, fostering an environment for participants to collectively address common problems. The abstract successfully identifies key problem areas faced by LINMAS personnel, providing a clear rationale for the intervention. The reported "results" indicating the identification of needs in communication development and the conceptualization of reporting/information applications suggest a responsive approach to the identified issues, directly linking the intervention to the practical demands of the service providers. While the abstract clearly outlines the intent and initial outcomes, a full paper would benefit significantly from further elaboration on several points to fully demonstrate the project's impact and transferability. Specifically, greater detail is needed regarding the "applications that are used as a means of reporting and information." Understanding their nature (e.g., digital tools, established protocols), how they were developed or chosen, and their actual implementation process would enrich the findings. Furthermore, the abstract focuses on identifying needs; future reporting should delineate the metrics or mechanisms by which the "optimization of services" will be measured post-intervention, moving beyond identifying needs to demonstrating tangible improvements and sustainability. Providing insights into the long-term impact and the potential for replicating this model in other similar contexts would significantly strengthen the overall contribution of this important community service work.
