Review

The paper "Kelayakan Hairpiece Berbahan Dasar Serat Daun Nanas" presents a highly relevant and timely investigation into the utilization of agricultural waste for sustainable product development. It effectively identifies the significant environmental problem of underutilized pineapple leaf waste in Indonesia, particularly in South Sumatra, and proposes an innovative solution: transforming pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) into hairpieces. This approach is commendable for its dual benefits, offering an eco-friendly and strong natural alternative to traditional hairpiece materials while simultaneously contributing to waste reduction and fostering sustainable practices within the fashion industry. The core contribution lies in establishing the preliminary feasibility of this novel application, which holds substantial promise for both economic and ecological advantages. The research employs a robust Research and Development (R&D) methodology, adopting a quantitative approach to assess both product validity and user preference. Data collection involved a comprehensive strategy, including interviews, observation, documentation, and the primary use of questionnaires. A critical strength of the study is the engagement of expert panels: three experienced panelists evaluated the product's validity, while fifteen professionals, comprising hairstylists and salon owners, conducted the crucial preference testing. The findings are remarkably positive, with product validity achieving an impressive average of 94.4%, indicating the PALF hairpiece is "very feasible" and suitable for public use. Furthermore, the preference test yielded an outstanding 96.7% "very liked" rating from the professional respondents, underscoring high potential for market acceptance and aesthetic appeal. This study provides compelling initial evidence for the viability and desirability of pineapple leaf fiber as a sustainable material for hairpieces, marking a valuable contribution to the field of sustainable fashion and material science. While the reported high validity and preference scores are encouraging, future research could benefit from a more in-depth analysis of specific material characteristics, such as long-term durability, color retention, styling versatility, and resistance to environmental factors. Furthermore, exploring the cost-benefit analysis in comparison to conventional synthetic or human hair options would strengthen the economic argument for widespread adoption. Nevertheless, the paper successfully demonstrates a promising and environmentally conscious alternative for the fashion accessories market, laying a strong foundation for further development and potential commercialization.
