Keanekaragaman kepiting pada ekosistem mangrove kecamatan ujungpangkah kabupaten gresik. Pelajari keanekaragaman kepiting di ekosistem mangrove Ujungpangkah, Gresik. Ditemukan 4 spesies dengan indeks keanekaragaman rendah. Tubuca dussumieri dominan.
This study investigates the diversity and abundance of crabs within the mangrove ecosystem of Ujungpangkah, Gresik, providing valuable baseline data for this specific region. The objective is clearly stated, aiming to analyze diversity and abundance, utilizing a straightforward methodology involving direct observation and measurement across three sampling stations. The findings reveal the presence of four crab species: *Metaplax elegans*, *Labuanium politum*, *Metopograpsus latifrons*, and *Tubuca dussumieri*. Significantly, the calculated diversity indices (H') are notably low (0.668–0.956), alongside low evenness (E 0.2–0.37) and moderate dominance (C 0.42–0.60). *Tubuca dussumieri* emerged as the most abundant species, contributing 39% of the relative abundance. Environmental parameters, including temperature (27-29 °C), pH (6.0), and salinity (35.5‰), were also measured, providing context for the habitat conditions. While the study successfully identifies the present crab species and quantifies their diversity and abundance, there is a minor point of confusion in the interpretation of the dominance index. The abstract states a Simson dominance index (C) ranging from 0.42-0.60, categorizing it as "sedang" (moderate), yet immediately follows this with the assertion that "nilai indeks dominasi mendekati 0, berarti tidak ada individu yang mendominasi." A value of 0.4-0.6 typically indicates moderate dominance, not negligible dominance. This contradictory statement requires clarification or correction. Furthermore, while the low diversity and evenness are highlighted, the abstract could benefit from a brief discussion on the potential implications of these low values for the ecosystem's health or stability. Considering the limited number of species found, a discussion on whether three stations were adequately representative of the entire mangrove ecosystem would also strengthen the study. Despite these minor points, the research offers a useful contribution to the ecological understanding of mangrove ecosystems in Gresik, particularly concerning the brachyuran fauna. The identification of species and the quantification of diversity metrics lay a foundation for future monitoring and conservation efforts. The baseline data on crab diversity, abundance, and associated environmental parameters are crucial for assessing the health and changes within this specific mangrove habitat. With a clarification regarding the interpretation of the dominance index, this study provides meaningful insights and is suitable for publication, encouraging further research into the factors influencing these observed patterns of diversity.
