Abstract

Review

The paper, "Inovasi Layanan Kampus: Pemasangan Vending Machine oleh Pusat Pengelolaan Dana Sosial Universitas Airlangga," presents a timely and relevant initiative focusing on enhancing campus services and student welfare. It details the implementation of vending machines by Universitas Airlangga's PUSPAS as a community service program, primarily aimed at improving student access to nutritional options and daily necessities. The abstract highlights the increasing student preference for healthier food choices and positions the program as a direct response, particularly important during the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, it laudably connects this local intervention with global sustainable development goals, specifically Zero Hunger (SDG 2) and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12). A significant strength of this initiative lies in its practical approach to addressing immediate student needs. The strategic placement of vending machines, determined through observation and mapping of high-traffic areas, demonstrates a thoughtful execution strategy to maximize accessibility and convenience. The provision of snacks, beverages, and daily essentials within campus premises effectively reduces the need for students to leave the area, thereby enhancing their comfort and potentially their safety. The reported positive student feedback regarding increased satisfaction with campus facilities and the overall contribution to their well-being underscores the success of this program as a tangible improvement in student life. It serves as an excellent example of how universities can leverage their resources for community engagement and student support. While the initiative is commendable, the abstract could benefit from more empirical detail to solidify its claims. It states that the program "berhasil meningkatkan kepuasan mahasiswa" and that students "merasa terbantu," but it lacks mention of the specific methodologies used to measure this success. Future iterations or a full paper would greatly benefit from including quantitative or qualitative data, such as results from student surveys, usage statistics, or sales data, to substantiate the reported improvements. Additionally, deeper insights into the definition of "healthy options" and how products were curated to meet this standard would strengthen the paper's contribution to discussions on responsible consumption. Further exploration into the long-term sustainability of the program and its broader impact beyond initial student satisfaction would also enhance its scholarly value.
