Examining nursing students’ proficiency and belief in nursing informatics.
This timely study addresses a critical area in nursing education, examining the proficiency and beliefs of nursing students in informatics, a field of increasing importance in the digital transformation of healthcare. The research objectives are clearly stated, aiming to analyze the relationship between perception and competency in nursing informatics among students. Utilizing a quantitative cross-sectional design with a robust sample of 152 students drawn through stratified random sampling, the methodology appears sound. The abstract highlights the use of adapted and validated instruments, alongside appropriate statistical analyses including Chi-Square, Kruskal-Wallis with post-hoc tests, and One-Way ANOVA, which lend credibility to the findings. The initial results indicating varying levels of competency and perception, and crucially, a significant relationship between them, provide valuable insights into the current state of nursing informatics education. While the study presents a solid foundation, there are a few areas for refinement and further consideration. The abstract would benefit from greater clarity regarding the *direction* of the observed significant relationship between perception and competency; for instance, whether positive perception correlates with higher competency. Additionally, while the cross-sectional design effectively identifies associations, it inherently limits conclusions regarding causality, a point worth acknowledging within the full manuscript. Although the abstract notes differences across academic years, a brief mention of the specific academic years demonstrating higher competency or more positive perceptions would enhance its immediate utility. Finally, ensuring consistent terminology between the title (Proficiency and Belief) and the abstract's core constructs (Persepsi and Kompetensi – Perception and Competency) would improve overall coherence. Despite these minor points, the study's conclusions underscore a significant need for strategic interventions in nursing education. The finding that differences in perception and competency exist across academic years strongly supports the call for curriculum strengthening and the integration of technology-based learning. These recommendations are highly actionable and directly contribute to enhancing students' digital readiness, aligning nursing education with contemporary healthcare demands. This paper provides valuable evidence for educational institutions to critically evaluate and adapt their nursing informatics curricula, ultimately preparing future nurses who are not only competent but also confident in leveraging technology for improved patient care. Future research could explore the underlying factors contributing to negative perceptions qualitatively, or test the effectiveness of proposed curricular changes through longitudinal intervention studies.
