Abstract

The Research and Community Service Information System (SIMPAS) at the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of the Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) has evolved since it was introduced in 2018 to improve efficiency and transparency in managing research and community service activities. This research focuses on the development of SIMPAS through technical updates and the addition of features to meet increasingly complex user needs. This evolution includes updating the system environment using the latest version of Laravel, database refactoring to simplify data processing, and adding features such as account registration using Google email and more flexible user role management. This research uses the Scrum methodology in system development, which allows for continuous improvement and focuses on collaboration between teams. The results of this research are expected to optimize the main business functions of LPPM ITK in the process of submitting proposals, selection, to reporting research and community service results, which in turn supports the achievement of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and regional development. This research also discusses the integration of the system with other related platforms, as well as the potential use of modern technology to support operational security and efficiency.

Review

This paper, "Evolution of the Research & Community Service Information System (SIMPAS LPPM) - Institut Teknologi Kalimantan," outlines the continuous development of a critical institutional information system designed to enhance the efficiency and transparency of research and community service management. The abstract effectively conveys the system's journey since its 2018 inception, emphasizing its iterative improvement in response to evolving user requirements. The stated objective of optimizing core LPPM functions and supporting the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and regional development is a strong justification for this research, highlighting the practical significance of the system's evolution. The abstract details several key technical and functional advancements. These include crucial system environment updates, such as migrating to the latest Laravel version, and significant database refactoring aimed at simplifying data processing. Functionally, the addition of Google email registration and more flexible user role management directly addresses user experience and administrative complexity. The use of the Scrum methodology in development is a positive indicator, suggesting an agile, collaborative, and continuously improving approach, which is vital for the long-term success and adaptability of such complex information systems. The expected outcomes, including the optimization of proposal submission, selection, and reporting processes, are clearly articulated and position SIMPAS as a central tool for ITK's strategic objectives. While the abstract mentions integration with other platforms and the potential for modern technology in operational security and efficiency, the full paper would benefit from elaborating on specific metrics used to quantify the improvements in efficiency and transparency. Further details on user adoption rates, the challenges faced during the Scrum sprints, and the specific technologies considered for security would also strengthen the overall contribution and provide a more comprehensive understanding of SIMPAS's impact and future roadmap.
