Introduction

Evaluasi geometri jalan hauling blok b4-eto 1 pada pt. Bapan jaya perkasa, kecamatan pomala, kolaka-sulawesi tenggara. Evaluasi geometri jalan hauling tambang PT.

Abstract

State Highway and Transportation Officials) 1993.

Review

The paper, titled "EVALUASI GEOMETRI JALAN HAULING BLOK B4-ETO 1 PADA PT. BAPAN JAYA PERKASA, KECAMATAN POMALA, KOLAKA-SULAWESI TENGGARA," addresses a critical aspect of mining operations: the safety and efficiency of hauling roads. The objective of this research is to assess the geometric conformity of an existing hauling road to established safety standards, identify discrepancies, and propose necessary improvements, including the placement of signage and the dimensions of safety bunds. This topic is highly relevant to occupational safety, operational efficiency, and environmental management within the mining sector, particularly in regions like Sulawesi Tenggara where such activities are prevalent. The study’s focus on a specific, real-world case provides valuable insights into practical challenges faced by mining companies in maintaining infrastructure. The methodology employed is primarily observational, involving direct fieldwork and structured data collection, which is appropriate for evaluating existing physical infrastructure. The study utilizes the ASSHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) 1993 standard as its benchmark for road safety, a widely recognized authority in road design. The findings reveal several critical non-conformities. Notably, the width of straight sections of the road falls short of the minimum standard (requiring widening to at least 8.75m), and numerous curves are narrower than the prescribed 14m minimum. While the study reports existing superelevation, longitudinal, and transverse slopes, it explicitly states that observed curve radii (starting from 32m) do not fully meet the planned minimum of 33m. A significant finding is the complete absence of road signage, posing a substantial safety risk. On a positive note, the dimensions of the existing safety bunds (0.90m height, 1.75m width) are found to meet or exceed the calculated minimum requirements (0.78m height, 1.56m width) based on the specific haul truck tire height. The principal strength of this research lies in its practical application and direct relevance to improving safety and operational standards at PT. BAPAN JAYA PERKASA. By systematically comparing observed road geometries against an established industry standard, the study provides clear, actionable recommendations for infrastructure upgrades. However, the abstract could benefit from a clearer discussion of the specific implications of the reported superelevation and slopes – whether they are within acceptable ranges or also deviations. While using ASSHTO 1993 is a good starting point, acknowledging the existence of more recent standards or discussing the specific relevance of the 1993 version for mining roads would add depth. The complete lack of signage is a stark finding that demands immediate attention and underscores the necessity of a comprehensive safety management plan. Overall, this paper serves as a valuable case study, highlighting common deficiencies in mining road design and maintenance, and provides a clear impetus for implementing corrective measures to enhance operational safety.
