Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of career guidance in enhancing pre-employment mental readiness among orphans at the Muhammadiyah Boys’ Orphanage, Medan Branch. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving caregivers, career mentors, and active foster participants in the program. The findings revealed that Islamic value–integrated career guidance significantly improved self-confidence, independence, and mental preparedness for work transition. Three key themes emerged: (1) implementation of Islamic character-based career programs, (2) enhancement of mental readiness and career orientation, and (3) mentoring strategies to overcome emotional and social challenges among orphans. These results highlight the importance of a holistic, spirituality-based approach in expanding both theoretical understanding and practical applications of Islamic career counseling within faith-based social institutions.

Review

The most striking issue with this submission is the profound mismatch between the provided title, "Early Marriage Readiness: An Analysis of Determinant Factors and Their Implications," and the accompanying abstract. The abstract clearly outlines a study focused on the implementation of Islamic value-integrated career guidance to enhance pre-employment mental readiness among orphans. This fundamental discrepancy immediately raises serious concerns about the coherence and accuracy of the submission, suggesting either an administrative error in pairing the abstract with the wrong title, or a severe misrepresentation of the study's actual content. This issue must be rectified before any meaningful evaluation of the research itself can proceed. Setting aside the title discrepancy, the abstract presents a qualitative case study investigating a relevant and niche topic: career guidance within a faith-based orphanage setting. The chosen qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis with key stakeholders, appears appropriate for exploring the nuances of program implementation and participant experiences. The findings, highlighting improved self-confidence, independence, and mental preparedness through Islamic value-integrated guidance, offer valuable insights into the potential benefits of holistic, spirituality-based interventions. The emergence of specific themes—Islamic character-based programs, enhanced readiness, and mentoring strategies for emotional/social challenges—indicates a well-structured analysis of the data. While the abstract suggests a potentially impactful study on a vulnerable population, its academic integrity is severely compromised by the conflicting title. Should the abstract represent the actual research, the title must be immediately revised to accurately reflect the study's scope and objectives, which clearly pertain to career guidance for orphans, not early marriage readiness. Furthermore, for future submissions, the abstract could benefit from briefly outlining the specific challenges orphans typically face in career transitions that the program aims to address, and perhaps a sentence on the potential transferability of these findings beyond the specific institution. Until the core discrepancy between the title and abstract is resolved, it is impossible to properly assess the paper's contribution to its stated field.
