Review

This study, titled "Analisis Trend Riset Pekerja Sosial (Social Worker) Anak dan Lanjut Usia," embarks on an important and timely endeavor to map the research landscape concerning social work with children and the elderly. The authors rightly identify the critical role social workers play in a globalized world and the imperative for them to understand contemporary challenges. By proposing to analyze research trends at both national and international levels, using an analytical approach on 30 accredited journals from 2020-2023, the research sets out to fill a perceived gap in understanding the issues social workers face. The motivation behind this trend analysis is commendable, aiming to equip social workers for future demands by highlighting current research foci. The findings presented offer valuable insights into the prevalent themes within child and elderly care research. For child-related social work, the study highlights critical areas such as child exploitation, abuse, disability, trouble with the law, education, and the role of technology. It particularly notes the dominance of child abuse and education within this category. In the realm of elderly care, key trends identified include elderly health, neglect, skill training, and the advancement of technological support. A significant finding is the observation that child care research is more dominant overall than elderly care research, and within elderly care, health support and technological advancement are prominent themes. These specific findings provide a snapshot of where scholarly attention is currently directed, offering a preliminary guide for practitioners and policymakers. However, a crucial observation from the research itself is the identified "lack of research on social work theme, especially on child and elderly social work" despite analyzing trends *within* child and elderly care. This suggests that while topics *related* to children and the elderly are researched, the specific disciplinary lens of 'social work' might be underrepresented. The abstract’s recommendation for "further research on trend in child and elderly care research" could be strengthened by explicitly detailing *what kind* of further research is needed – perhaps a more focused exploration into the *social work perspective* within these trends, or an analysis of how social work interventions and outcomes are being studied. Despite this, the paper serves as a useful initial mapping exercise, providing a foundational understanding of research priorities and underscoring a critical gap that merits deeper investigation for the benefit of the social work profession.
