Abstract

The Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie Road, which underwent improvements compared to the previous year, has not yet experienced traffic congestion. However, with increasing vehicles, congestion will likely occur in the coming years. Objective: To analyze the road characteristics, including geometric features, speed, travel time, traffic volume, and composition; road performance, free-flow speed, density, road capacity, degree of saturation, and level of service; and simulation results using VISSIM software. Methodology: The study utilized both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through field observations, while secondary data were sourced from journals, books, and government agencies. Results: The analysis shows the highest traffic volume occurs on Tuesdays between 16:00-17:00, with a total volume of 2,710 vehicles/hour or 1,117.8 passenger car units (PCU)/hour, predominantly consisting of motorcycles (82.32%), followed by sedans (11.77%), passenger vehicles (0.01%), pickup trucks (4.78%), small and large buses (0.19%), two-axle trucks with 4 and 6 wheels (0.92%), and articulated trucks (0.01%). Conclusion: The performance analysis of the Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie Road in Bone Bolango Regency, utilizing the PKJI (Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual) 2023 method, reveals a free-flow speed of 46.269 km/h, a traffic density of 2.08 vehicles/hour/m, a road capacity of 1,484 PCU/hour, degree of saturation of “0.38” indicates a stable flow with very good condition and is categorized as A. Then, the level of service D is observable from vehicles speed according to the Government Regulations of 2015

Review

This study, titled "Traffic Performance Analysis on Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie Road Using VISSIM Software," addresses a highly relevant issue of urban traffic management pertinent to developing regions. The proactive assessment of current road performance and the anticipation of future congestion on a specific road in Bone Bolango Regency is commendable. Given the continuous increase in vehicle numbers in many rapidly urbanizing areas, such analyses are crucial for informing infrastructure planning and policy decisions before severe congestion becomes entrenched. The integration of VISSIM software, as indicated by the title, suggests a sophisticated approach to traffic modeling and simulation, which holds the potential to offer valuable insights into dynamic traffic behavior. The methodology employed a robust combination of primary data collection through field observations and secondary data from various sources. The abstract details specific findings, such as the identification of the highest traffic volume occurring on Tuesdays between 16:00-17:00, characterized by a significant dominance of motorcycles (82.32%). The application of the Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual (PKJI) 2023 to determine key performance indicators like free-flow speed, road capacity, and degree of saturation (0.38, indicating a stable flow with very good condition, Category A) provides context-specific results for the road segment. However, a significant inconsistency arises with the abstract's concluding statement that "the level of service D is observable from vehicles speed according to the Government Regulations of 2015," which directly contradicts the "Category A" designation based on degree of saturation. Furthermore, while the study's objective explicitly included the analysis of "simulation results using VISSIM software," the abstract's results section primarily presents PKJI 2023 calculations, with no explicit findings derived from the VISSIM simulation. Overall, the paper presents a timely and important analysis for the Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie Road. Its strengths lie in the detailed data collection, the application of local capacity standards relevant to Indonesian contexts, and the early identification of potential future congestion challenges. Nevertheless, the abstract reveals two critical areas for improvement: firstly, the need to clarify and reconcile the conflicting Level of Service classifications (A versus D), as such a discrepancy undermines the clarity of the overall performance assessment. More significantly, the complete absence of any actual VISSIM simulation results, despite the software being central to the paper's title and stated objectives, is a major oversight. For the paper to fully deliver on its premise, these simulation results, including details of model calibration, validation, and insights into future traffic scenarios, must be clearly presented and thoroughly integrated into the discussion and conclusions. Without these, the utility of mentioning VISSIM is significantly diminished.
