O objetivo deste trabalho é oferecer ao leitor um breve panorama dos aspectos sociais, políticos, econômicos e culturais da Idade Média. Com base nos estudos de Umberto Eco, Jacques Le Goff, Georges Duby e Jacques Heers, entre outros, tentamos mostrar como a mescla de todos estes elementos concorreram para o surgimento -- em um determinado momento da História da humanidade -- de uma produção cultural singular e frutífera, que influencia até hoje o imaginário ocidental.
